Pledge to Make Urpad Beel Free from Plastic and Waste

A cleanliness drive was recently conducted to make the historic Urpad Beel in Goalpara free from plastic and waste. A few days ago, Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma declared the traditional Urpad Beel as a 'Bird Sanctuary.' In order to implement this announcement, the Goalpara Public Health Engineering Department has taken special initiatives.

Cleanliness Drive Initiative

As part of the steps to transform Uepad Beel into a plastic-free zone, a cleanliness drive was recently undertaken by the Goalpara district administration in collaboration with the District Journalists' Association. The cleanliness drive was officially inaugurated by the Chief Executive Officer of Goalpara Zila Parishad, Mugang Choudhury. While inaugurating the campaign, Choudhury declared Urpad Beel as a plastic-free zone.

Importance of the Initiative

Speaking at the event, Executive Engineer of Goalpara Public Health Engineering Department, Prakash Haloi, highlighted that the historic Urpad Beel has become a major tourist attraction due to its natural beauty. He urged all visitors to enjoy the scenic landscape while also maintaining cleanliness and ensuring the area remains free from plastic waste.

Community Participation

The event was attended by the President of the Goalpara District Journalists' Association, Abdur Rouf, who expressed gratitude to the district administration and the Public Health Engineering Department for their efforts in maintaining cleanliness in Urpadd Beel.

Several journalists from the Goalpara District Journalists' Association, members of the Goalpara Zila Parishad, representatives from the Public Health Engineering Department, President of the Urpad Beel Fish Farming Cooperative Society, David Marak, and numerous local residents actively participated in the drive. With brooms in hand, they cleaned the pathways around the beel, contributing to the mission of keeping the area pristine and environmentally friendly.
