Indian Railways has prepared a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for laying a railway track from Kokrajhar in Assam to Gelephu in Bhutan. A spokesperson for the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) stated on Saturday that the final location survey for the proposed railway line has already been completed. Now, the project awaits approval of the DPR.
The proposed 69.04-kilometer railway line will connect Kokrajhar station in Assam to Gelephu in Bhutan. The estimated cost of the project is ₹3,500 crore. This rail link is expected to strengthen India-Bhutan relations by boosting trade, tourism, and cultural exchanges between the two countries.
