Delhi Police's 'Operation Kavach 7.0': A Major Crackdown on Drug Trafficking

Delhi Police has once again demonstrated its commitment to a drug-free India through a large-scale anti-drug operation—‘Operation Kavach 7.0’. The two-day crackdown, conducted on February 12 and 13, spanned across 784 locations in Delhi, leading to the arrest of 90 narco-offenders and the seizure of a significant quantity of illicit substances.

Massive Seizures and Arrests Under ‘Operation Kavach 7.0’

During the 24-hour coordinated raids, law enforcement teams confiscated:

  • 553.05 grams of heroin
  • 43.028 kg of ganja
  • 199 grams of cocaine
  • 207,600 Alprazolam tablets

In addition to drug-related arrests, the Delhi Police registered 157 cases under the Delhi Excise Act, arresting 161 individuals and seizing:

  • 94 bottles and 432 cans of beer
  • 33,098 quarters of illicit liquor
  • Five hukka setups

Further, the operation led to the arrest of 29 individuals under the Arms Act, with the recovery of:

  • One revolver and one pistol
  • Six country-made pistols
  • 11 live cartridges
  • A surgical blade and 18 knives
  • ₹24,000 in cash
  • Two stolen motorcycles and two stolen rickshaws

Extensive Preventive Measures

Apart from targeting drug peddlers, authorities also detained 909 individuals in preventive custody, while 5,077 persons were held under the DP Act. Moreover, 48 vehicles were seized under Section 66 of the DP Act.

To further tighten control over illicit activities, Delhi Police also raided illegal pan shops within a 100-meter radius and prosecuted 1,407 violators under the COTPA Act.

Operation Kavach: A Strong Response to Drug Trafficking

Launched in May 2023, Operation Kavach aims to systematically dismantle drug networks. By targeting both street-level peddlers and high-profile traffickers, Delhi Police has effectively weakened the narcotics supply chain in the region.

The latest phase of this operation (Kavach 7.0) was executed by 150 police teams, comprising personnel from various district police stations, Crime Branch, and Special Cell. With the help of human intelligence and technical surveillance, these teams conducted simultaneous raids, making a significant impact on drug-related activities in the capital.

Government’s Zero-Tolerance Policy Against Drugs

The Government of India, under its ‘Zero Tolerance’ policy, is actively working toward a Drug-Free India. Union Home Minister Amit Shah has repeatedly emphasized the need for strict measures against narcotics detection and demand reduction.

Delhi Police has taken this directive seriously and continues to conduct regular, focused operations like ‘Operation Kavach’ to dismantle drug networks and curb the menace. The success of six previous operations under Kavach has already led to numerous arrests and massive drug seizures, making Delhi a difficult ground for drug traffickers.

Impact of the Crackdown on Drug Trafficking

The fear of surprise raids has caused a major setback for drug peddlers and bootleggers, leading to:

  • A significant drop in drug supply
  • Big traffickers going underground due to police action
  • Major players shifting storehouses outside Delhi
  • Smugglers adopting new methods (e.g., using cars instead of trucks to transport contraband)

A recent case of Noida Police busting a Nigerian drug racket highlights how authorities are keeping a close watch on changing smuggling patterns.

Conclusion

‘Operation Kavach 7.0’ marks another successful milestone in Delhi Police’s relentless fight against drugs. By conducting high-intensity raids and strategic crackdowns, authorities are effectively breaking down drug syndicates and protecting the youth from falling into the trap of substance abuse.

With continued vigilance, intelligence-driven operations, and strict enforcement, Delhi Police is sending a strong message—Delhi will not be a safe haven for drug traffickers!
