Awaiting the Announcement of the New Chief Minister
State Bureau, Jagran, New Delhi
With Prime Minister Narendra Modi returning from his U.S. visit, the process of government formation in Delhi has gained momentum. BJP National President JP Nadda held a late-evening meeting with the party's general secretaries on Saturday, where discussions on government formation in Delhi took place. It is expected that a party observer will soon be appointed to oversee the selection of the new Chief Minister.
The results of the Delhi Assembly elections were declared on February 8, yet the official announcement of the new Chief Minister is still awaited. Over the past week, Nadda has met several MLAs individually and has also consulted Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Speculations suggest that a list of potential candidates has been prepared and will be presented to party legislators through an appointed observer after discussions with the Prime Minister. As Modi has returned from his diplomatic visits to France and the U.S. on Friday night, it is anticipated that the observer’s appointment will be announced within a day or two.
BJP President's Meeting with Party General Secretaries
During the meeting at the BJP headquarters in New Delhi, JP Nadda discussed key strategies, including the selection process for the Chief Minister. Once the observer is appointed, a meeting with newly elected legislators will be convened to finalize and announce the name of the Chief Minister.
Probable Candidates for the Chief Ministerial Position
Among the frontrunners for the Chief Minister's post are Pravesh Verma, who defeated Arvind Kejriwal, former Leader of Opposition Vijender Gupta, ex-NDMC Vice Chairman Satish Upadhyay, former state organization minister Pawan Sharma, six-time MLA Mohan Singh Bisht, and legislators Ajay Mahawar, Rekha Gupta, Shikha Rai, and Ashish Sood. However, there is a strong possibility that the responsibility may be given to an MLA who is not currently in the spotlight.
Reports also suggest that the Cabinet will have representation from every Lok Sabha constituency in Delhi. BJP leaders have indicated that the swearing-in ceremony is likely to be held next week, marking the formal commencement of the new government.
